We had our annual fantasy football draft this past weekend. It is our third season, but since The-Rec was not officially formed till this past January, it was our first official The-Rec League draft. We took a crack at putting together our own draft board this year. Sorry some of the pictures are blurry….we had a keg. In case you were wondering, yes that is a ping pong net on a pool table, we like to keep our competitive table games diverse.

This past weekend Marcus McNeill. offensive linemen for the Chargers, hosted Bolt to the Q. The 5k Run/Walk started from the Chargers facility to the 50 yard line of Qualcomm stadium. Proceeds to the event go to Marcus McNeill’s Macks Miracles Foundation.

I had the pleasure of meeting Marcus’ mother, pictured here on the right, kind of randomly. My sister and I were talking about how tall Marcus is, and his brothers, who are the same height happened to be right next to us. His mother over heard us talking, and eventually brought us over to Marcus to meet him. She was very sweet.

The finish line featured 10 beautiful Charger Girls. I didn’t want to be holding a camera up while crossing the finish line like a fool. So instead I smiled and jogged slowly across.

The Hall of Champions in Balboa Park hosted their first San Diego Sports Social last Tuesday. The social featured a panel made up of various San Diego sports media. The panel gave an informative discussion about how social media has affected sports media in recent years. They spoke about how Twitter has allowed the media to deliver sports news instantly.
Kirk Morisson, from the Jacksonville Jaguars and SDSU alum, was a special guest to the panel and gave a players perspective to the discussion. I thought his views on Twitter were very interesting because players get fined the most for the things they tweet. Morisson gave his story about how he, and other players, used Twitter to criticize Jay Cutler when he decided to not return during a playoff game this last post season. The tweets quickly became a national story.
The Hall of Champions was a very cool venue for this type of event and It was nice to see how big the turn out was. It showed that social media could be used in a professional manner and not just to goof around or rant on.
